we arrived at the foot of Hayeswater - a glacial lake. Lessons on ice, moraines grinding and valley formation! But the ice was much more interesting - up to a foot thick that we could see.
From here we were faced with a steep climb up our current 400m to 675m! Kiah tackled this with a mixture of "why this way?" "I'll find my own way - this path is rubbish" But up she went! Temperature dropping all the way with the wind chill.
Icy sections, frozen snow troughs, frozen bogs and all! Finally we reached the coll on the lip of The Knott.
"My legs are wobbly! And I'm cold! Let's go back!" No amount of persuasion would work!
But look how high we were! She did fantastically for her first fell walk! I'm proud of her! Well doen Kiah!!
Back down, stopping for lunch at the foot of Hayeswater,. Checked the ice - made our own ice lollies!
Stooped at all the ice crystals and frozen streams. Dropped into Threshwaite Glen to look at an old lead mine looking for stones to collect. Made it back to the campsite at 4:30. 7 hours on her feet and hardly a complaint. New boots and all!
We did stop at Brotherswater again to throw stones onto the ice - makes a chiming noise with each bounce - magic!
She can come any time with me!
Back at the site - hot showers. Adjourned to the Inn - coke and mulled wine! Games and log fire and dinner again.
Cumberland sausage with two sides of chips! I had the local pheasant casserole!
Next day packed up and tidy - late breakfast. Then the 6 1/2 hour drive back.
A really fun trip!
